We provide medical health care for patients within the following areas Roath, Splott, Heath, City Centre, Adamsdown, Tremorfa, Llanrumney, Rumney, Pentwyn, & Penylan.
Any patient who would like to register at the Practice must follow the instructions below.
To register, please collect the necessary documents from reception. Please make sure you have your NHS number when registering. If you do not know this you can contact your old surgery.
Please note that Roathwell Surgery does not routinely prescribe Benzodiazepams e.g Diazepam, Lorazepam & Temazepam etc. If you are taking this medication when joining the practice you will be asked to see our Cluster Pharmacist with a view to reducing and eventually stopping your medication.
As part of our registration process we will ask you for evidence of your identity and your right to access NHS Medical Services. This could mean asking you to produce an E128, E112, adequate proof of your intention to reside and work within the country for at least 6 months, or any other such legal documentation as is required to ascertain your eligibility. If such documentation can be provided please bring this with you at the time of registration.
If such documentation cannot be produced and we are in any doubt as to whether we can register you as a NHS patient at our Practice, then we ask you to contact the Cardiff Business Service Centre on 01495 332 000 for further advice.
We will provide treatment under the Emergency or ‘Immediate and Necessary’ category (Immediate and necessary meaning “Illness that cannot wait until you return home”), Although, this does not mean you can then automatically register as you will only be treated as a temporary resident patient for this particular occasion.
If a patient moves out of the Practice area it is recommended they register with a more local GP. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide full services, for example house-calls, to those patients living outside our defined Practice area. Registering with a more local surgery would provide easier access to the GP and their services. A Patient Guide to GP Services
These fact sheets have been written to explain the role of UK health services, the National Health Service (NHS), to newly-arrived individuals seeking asylum. They cover issues such as the role of GPs, their function as gatekeepers to the health services, how to register and how to access emergency services.

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.
You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.
To register as a temporary patient simply contact the local practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.
